Enhancing T-BOX Design: The Vital Role of Nuvoton's CODEC
T-BOX is primarily utilized in new energy vehicles' intelligent automotive communication terminals. Integrating IoT technology, data communication, remote monitoring, and efficient and reliable control functions enables intelligent and safe driving.
Key Features of T-BOX:
- Communication Capability: Real-time interconnection.
- Remote Monitoring: Status feedback, remote anomaly maintenance, and updates.
- Data Collection and Transmission: Secure protection and privacy encryption.
- Multi-interface Expansion: Customizable functions and software applications.
In T-BOX, the CODEC (coder-decoder) plays a crucial role, serving as the primary communication bridge. Its essential functions include:
- Data Signal Conversion: Conversion between analog and digital signals.
- Data Compression and Storage: Saving bandwidth and data space, improving transmission efficiency.
- Audio-Visual Signal Processing: High-quality audio and video transmission.
- Compatibility and Interoperability: Supporting communication across multiple devices and systems.
T-BOX Audio Architecture:
The key features of the T-BOX audio architecture include:
- Independent power management system
- Dual-microphone audio processing
- Separation of CODEC, Class-D audio amplifier, and In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) system
Nuvoton has launched two low-power, high-bitrate decoders designed for automotive-grade applications, offering single and dual channels options. These devices feature high-precision 24-bit stereo ADC and DAC capabilities and integrate multiple additional functions to streamline audio system design solutions. Packaged in a standard QFN32 (5*5mm) format, this helps developers shorten the time from initial product design to mass production.

Using the NAU88U22A as an example, it integrates advanced digital signal processing features, including:
- 5-band equalization
- 3D sound enhancement
- Automatic microphone mixing signal level control
- Line input via ADC for playback path
- Additional digital filtering options
The NAU88U22A supports a broad voltage range and operates with two power supply configurations. Its digital core efficiently operates at voltages as low as 1.7V, optimizing power consumption (operating voltage range: 1.7V-3.6V). Speaker BTL output and two auxiliary line outputs can use a 5V power supply (operating voltage range: 2.5V-5.5V), maximizing output power up to 1W. Moreover, flexible power-saving modes are achievable through software-controlled internal registers.
